There are so many subtleties in a great portrait. The dreamy white background and negative space locks your attention onto this Short Eared Owl (Asio flammeus) with it's glowing eyes. On closer inspection you see the imprint of the wing in the snow, but my favorite aspect is the one perfect snowflake above the owl's left eye. This was taken in almost whiteout conditions. I'm so grateful I got out and made the treacherous trip to Grand Pre, Nova Scotia to capture the event.
