While on a walk on an early December afternoon, I came across a spectacular scene of ice crushed up along a rocky shoreline. Various sized, random thin chips of ice had been broken up, shattered and pushed onto a granite outcrop. It was as if nature had art on display and I was visiting this frozen gallery. Many of these beautiful mini ice sculptures were upright and presented in an almost deliberate way that they were intended to be viewed. The ice was slightly smooth-faced and crystal clear, with frozen bubbles, pronounced textures and varying details - none the same. They had a jagged profile and a hint of hoar frost on most of the edges. I captured several photos of different ice displays, including multiple angles and I even came back to the location in the early evening to take advantage of different lighting opportunities. Even more incredible was the calm river set as a backdrop to these masterpieces.
