Before I stepped onto this ice shelf I looked to see how deep the water was and how thick the ice was. The ice was 2-3” and the water depth was about a foot. I judged that I should be ok, but if the shelf did collapse, I’d just get my boot wet and would be in no other danger, especially since I was a 5min walk from the truck. Plus, my faithful adventure partner was close by AND I let him know what I was doing. Sure enough, shortly after I took a few shots and I went to step off the shelf *crack* and in I went. First out of the water was my tripod and camera, then I stepped out. My waterproof boots did great, but my snow pants we were covered in quickly frozen water. Remember to practice good winter safety out there, be aware of your surroundings, and pack extra clothes to keep you warm in case of a ????‍♀️
