This shot was taken at my local conservation area on a cold and windy day about an hour before sunset. Snow had fallen that afternoon and the wind left these really cool patterns of snow over the dark ice. The temperature had dropped to -7°c 2 days prior which had started to freeze the river, though it hadn't completely frozen over. While this photo is not a grand scene, I think it celebrates winter based on what winter really is, water Changing States. This photo shows water in both liquid and crystal states. Both a sheet of ice and individual flakes piled up leaving beautiful shapes and patterns. Almost like a snowflake itself, this formation will never be seen again as it melts away with warmer temperatures.
