I am fortunate enough to have lived and worked on Sable Island National Park Reserve (SINPR) in 2019 and 2020, both as a Parks Canada employee and as a visiting researcher. I took this photo of grey seals on SINPR in July 2020, as our plane was making the final turn before landing on south beach. SINPR is home to the largest grey seal colony in the world, with over 400,000 using the island as their winter breeding ground. In the warmer seasons, these seals can still be found along the entire length of the beaches, basking in the Sable Island sun or splashing in the waves.
